Nod If You Can Hear Me

random thoughts on twitter

Monday March 9, 2009

I consider myself an early adopter of twitter (June of 2007), and found myself nearly addicted to its immediacy and connectedness all the way through the completion of the presidential election cycle.  It was around that time that the numbers exploded.  There where all kinds of new people who had interesting things to say about marketing, leadership, healthcare, and human behavior.

I was initially excited about this constant stream of divergent perspectives, but as the months have passed, I am starting to grow tired of a few things. I mostly tire of the incessant marketing and link posting by a certain type of tweeps.  I’m sure that you have great finds that you just can’t wait to share, but try throwing in some genuine conversation at times.  I’ve done some house cleaning, but it’s fairly widespread.

Additionally, I like to follow some health and health IT people, but I need a break from work sometimes… Ya know, its nice to leave work at work occasionally.  I don’t want to unfollow these folks, as they are great people with tons of good information and insight.  Unfortunately, I don’t know how to control how much of this type of tweeting I see.  Maybe groups/tweetdeck hashtag searches instead of following those tweeps… no idea.

I am nearing the point of wanting to take a break for a few weeks.  My tweet frequency is way down as it is.  I just don’t want to loose contact with the few friends that I talk to regularly.  Maybe I’m just in a spring funk.  Maybe I need to let some time pass before making a decision.
